What Brand Elements Does Your Business Need?

Although my business has changed drastically over the past 5 years (photographer to social media manager to logo designer to website designer), my BRAND hasn’t.

Why is this? I created a solid mission statement that described ME and WHO I want to serve. I then conveyed that in my color palette, fonts, copy, SEO keywords, etc.

my mission statement

“Discovering the heart behind your brand and creating collateral that converts.”

At one point, it looked like managing social media accounts and conveying their brand in a positive light to build an audience that knows, likes, and trusts them.

Now, that looks like creating a website that turns site visitors into clients.

Do you see what I mean?

Although my business has changed, my heart hasn’t.

It is my heart to help new business owners develop their brand. I don’t think you need to pay thousands of dollars to hire a website designer to do it for you. This is why I created my DIY YOUR WEBSITE COURSE – because I want to empower YOU to create not only a website, but a BRAND for your business.

Ok so what the heck does this mean.

A brand is more than a logo. It is solid copy that engages your ideal audience, fonts and colors that represent you and your aesthetic, professional photos, and so much more. And all that implemented consistently on everything from your website to social media graphics to your client relation graphics.

Why Your Brand Isn’t Your Logo (Or Your Website) And What Really Matters

Seth Godin famously said, “Your brand is not your logo.” And he’s absolutely right. But here’s the kicker, your brand isn’t your website either.

As a website designer, I’ve seen countless entrepreneurs focus on logos, colors, or fancy web design thinking that’s what makes a brand. While these things are important, they’re not the heart of your brand.

Let me show you what really matters and why it’s the thing most people overlook.

My Brand Journey: Changing Services, Same Heart

Over the past five years, my business has evolved in ways I never anticipated:

  • I started as a photographer
  • Then became a social media manager, helping businesses grow on Instagram and Facebook
  • Next, I designed logos
  • Now, I create websites that convert

Through all these changes, one thing has never changed: my mission.

My mission has always been this:
Helping entrepreneurs discover the heart of their brand and create collateral that converts.

No matter the service I offer, this guiding principle stays the same. And this is what makes a brand strong, it’s not the visual elements, it’s the clarity of purpose and messaging.

The Most Important Part of Your Brand: Copy

Here’s the truth: the copy you write—the words you use to speak to your ideal client—is the foundation of your brand.

Your logo, color palette, typography, and design elements are important. They’re like the outfit your brand wears. But the copy? That’s the personality, the voice, the reason someone connects with you and decides to take action.

I even created a free Mood Board Challenge that walks you through discovering your brand’s heart and translating it into visuals. You can check it out here. But remember, visuals alone won’t convert clients, your messaging does.

The Three Pillars of a Strong Brand

To make it practical, let’s break down what a brand really is:

  1. Brand Messaging
    • Who is your ideal client?
    • What’s your mission and your values?
    • What tone of voice will you use to communicate?
This messaging should remain consistent no matter how your business evolves.
  2. Brand Identity
    • Logo
    • Color palette
    • Typography
    • Patterns and design elements
These are the visual components that make your brand recognizable.
  3. Brand Implementation
    • How do you show up online?
    • Website design
    • Social media graphics
    • Photography
    • Branded client materials (invoices, questionnaires, etc.)
This ensures your brand experience is consistent and builds trust with your audience.

Consistency in messaging, identity, and implementation builds the know, like, and trust factor that converts visitors into clients.

Start With Your Ideal Client, Then Build Everything Else

If you’re a new business owner ready to create a website that converts, start here: understand your ideal client, craft your messaging, and then design your brand around them.

That’s exactly what I teach in my Beyond The Template course. It guides you through:

  • Identifying your ideal client
  • Crafting a brand that speaks to them
  • Building a Squarespace website from start to finish using a high-converting template

Before touching any tech, you focus on strategy first. Because a beautiful website without a clear brand message is just…well, a pretty brochure.

I’ve got messy hair and a thirsty heart.

I overshare my life, and have an ultra-expressive personality. Some words people use to describe me are: helpful, real, fun, creative, authentic, and kind.

Elphaba from Wicked is kind of my alter-ego (I was a fan LONG before the movie-adaptation - anyone else?!). I am always trying to forge my own path and make a difference in the World, somehow, someway, while also constantly criticizing myself and trying to become the better version of me.

Quality conversations + coffee come easy to me.

I’ve never had an issue connecting naturally with others (probs because I can go on and on about my life story, not that it is interesting, I just process externally...)

I find so much joy in helping and serving others and I give myself fully to whatever it is that engages me, whether that is running a 50k or creating a website in a day.
