How To Prep For Maternity Leave As A Creative Entrepreneur

Are you wanting to take a prolonged vacation from your business? This YouTube video is for you!

In this episode I share with you my experience in preparing for a break… Some might say Sabbatical (last year I took December off of my business), and some might say Maternity Leave (this year I’ll be preparing for my first baby!). Either way, I’ll walk you through some practical things that you can do to set yourself up for taking a break – however long it might be – from your businesses.

What you’ll learn about in this episode:

1. WHAT IS SABBATICAL AS A CREATIVE ENTREPRENEUR?

Sabbatical is an extended time away to replenish and rest.

2. HOW CAN YOU TAKE AN EXTENDED BREAK?

  1. Decide what is enough for you and your family and once you hit that, take a break
  2. Prepare your mind (for me that looked like prayer)
  3. Batch your Instagram or blog content (whatever your marketing thing is)

3. CAN REST BE STRATEGIC TO YOUR BUSINESS?

I 100% believe it can — there is a reason a sabbatical is implemented for tenured professors in the University system!

BONUS TIP!

Want to know the vacation responder I had activated during Sabbatical. Here it is:

Hey there!

I’m out for a few weeks taking a business Sabbatical/ enjoying Christmas in the Midwest! Aka pulling on my stretchy pants for a Hallmark binge with my parents and some serious snacking. I’ll be diving back into my inbox on January 4th and I’ll get back to you then.

If what you need is urgent, please text me at (phone number).

Sending some relaxing vibes your way!

Bekah

And what about my maternity leave? I wanted that auto responder to be a bit more dense/ contain more info for my past clients and answering any potential Qs they may have had. Here is what I put for 3 months:

Hey there!

I’m out of the office snuggling my new baby girl October to December!  I’ll be diving back into my inbox on January 4th and I’ll get back to you then.

If you are a past client, here are some resources you may find helpful:

If you have a Squarespace website and something isn’t working, reach out to Squarespace Customer Care. They can’t help with coding things, but are very helpful with everything else.

If it is an integration on your website that isn’t working (contact form, Instagram widget, plugin, etc.) reach out to whoever you have that integration through. It may be as simple as re-authenticating your Instagram or you may need to have their tech people help you out.

If your site is on Showit, log in to your Showit website and on the bottom right corner there is a chat box. Their support team is PHENOMENAL and can definitely help you out!

If the work you need done is a bit more complex, reply to this email and I will get you on my calendar for a VIP day in January. I would love to help you with whatever you need. The best way I can serve you is if you book a half-day VIP day in my calendar. What that does is it reserves 3 hours with me in my calendar so I can give you my undivided attention and serve you to the best of my ability and we can spruce up your website so it is operating at its optimal level. That may include updating widgets/ plugins, updating the images in your portfolio, updating the info on your services page, updating the opt-ins on your site, and cleaning up whatever you may need!

Thank you for letting me prioritize my family during this time,

Bekah
