Mastering Squarespace for a Fast Business Launch

I’m a big advocate for PROGRESS OVER PERFECTION and not letting the small things hold you back from launching your business.

As a solopreneur it can feel hard to juggle all the tasks (including web design), but in this video we are going to dive into how to EASILY set up your Squarespace website for your new business.

Some questions I get about Squarespace for new entrepreneurs is:

  1. How do I quickly set up a Squarespace website?
  2. What are the best Squarespace templates for small businesses?
  3. How can I customize my Squarespace site for my brand?
  4. How do I optimize my Squarespace site for search engines?

We will go into it ALL (and more) in todays post!

Well, Squarespace is known for its simplicity, beautiful templates, and all-in-one platform. It’s perfect for small business owners who don’t want to waste time juggling multiple tools.

As new business owners, we need flexibility, creativity, and ease. Whether you’re launching a consulting service, a boutique, or even a coaching platform, Squarespace offers an intuitive way to get started.

  1. Ease of Use: Even if you’re not tech-savvy, you’ll feel confident using Squarespace.
  2. Professional Design: With its modern templates, your website will look like it was designed by a pro. There’s also a lot of amazing templates you can purchase for a bit extra that may come with some bells and whistles making them more worth it (I’ll go more into that later).
  3. Mobile Optimization: Every template is mobile-responsive, meaning it looks great on any device.
  4. Built-in E-commerce Tools: Ready to sell products or services? You don’t need additional plugins for that!

Alright, let’s get hands-on. First, head over to Squarespace.com and hit ‘Get Started.’ From there, you can choose a template. Let’s pick one that fits your brand vibe—there are options for everyone, from fashion to wellness to service industries.  I am actually going to take you into the template I created for my Beyond The Template course students.

Once you’ve chosen your template, customizing is super easy. Just click on anything you want to change—text, images, colors—and start making it yours.

Now let’s cover a few key features that will help you get your business online and selling quickly.

1. E-commerce Setup: If you’re selling products or services, Squarespace has an easy store setup where you can add products, set prices, and connect payment options.

2. Booking & Scheduling: For consultants or service providers, use the *Acuity Scheduling* feature to let clients book appointments directly through your site.

3. Email Marketing: Build your email list from day one. With Squarespace’s built-in email campaigns, you can start sending promotions and updates right away. That being said, I prefer Flodesk as my email marketing service.

4. SEO & Analytics: Don’t forget about visibility! Squarespace has built-in SEO tools and analytics so you can track visitors and optimize your site for search engines.

Okay, so your site is up and running. But how do you make it stand out? Here are a few quick tips.

1. Clear Branding: Make sure your logo, colors, and messaging align with your brand’s identity.

2. Simple Navigation: Don’t overwhelm visitors. Make it easy for them to find exactly what they’re looking for. Have 4-6 places to go/ links in your menu.

3. Strong Call-to-Action (CTA): Whether it’s ‘Book a Consultation,’ ‘Shop Now,’ or ‘Sign Up,’ make your CTA clear and prominent.

4. Optimized for Mobile: Double-check how your site looks on mobile devices, since many of your visitors will be viewing from their phones.

Now that your website looks amazing, it’s time to launch! Before you go live, do a final review. Check for broken links, proofread your copy, and test your contact forms.

Once you’re happy with everything, hit that big *Publish* button and voila—you’re live! Share your website across social media, in your email signature, and with your community.

Now that you know the basics of getting started on Squarespace, let me share five *time-saving hacks* to get your site up and running even faster!

**Hack #1: Use the Layout Engine to Drag and Drop Elements**

Squarespace’s layout engine allows you to drag and drop pre-designed blocks—like text, images, and buttons—onto your page which eliminates a ton of manual work, however if you don’t find a template that is a good fit, you could spend HOURS moving just a few elements around.

I suggest being strategic when looking for your template. Choose a template that vibes with your style. If you’re a service-based woman entrepreneur, check out THIS template — I think it could be a good fit AND it was made to get you eyeballs on your website and then make the sale. This template also has a step-by-step course attached to it so it is a 2 for 1 deal.

**Hack #2: Duplicate Pages and Blocks**

Why reinvent the wheel? If you have a layout or section that you like, simply duplicate it! You can duplicate entire pages or just blocks of content like testimonials or product sections. This is especially useful if you want a consistent look across multiple pages.

**Hack #3: Customize Fonts and Colors Site-wide**

One of the most time-consuming parts of designing a website is adjusting fonts and colors page by page. But here’s a pro tip: customize your site-wide fonts and color palettes in the ‘Design’ section. I like to create a STYLE GUIDE page at the way beginning so I don’t mess things up later on by changing the font or font size. That way, every page and block automatically follows the same style—saving you time while keeping your branding consistent.

**Hack #4: Use Template Pages for Faster Setup**

Squarespace offers pre-designed page templates for common needs like contact pages, about sections, and e-commerce. Instead of starting from scratch, pick a template page that fits your needs and customize it with your text and images. You can get your entire site structure done in minutes.

**Hack #5: Name and resize your photos prior**

You can use something like tinypng to resize your photos under 1 MB. This will make them load faster when people land on your website which will improve your SEO score. Also rename your photos with a SEO friendly name. For example it may start out as img_123.jpg. Change it to Nashville-wedding-photographer.jpg

With these five hacks, you’ll be able to build your Squarespace website faster than ever. It’s all about working smarter, not harder. You don’t need to spend weeks tweaking your site when Squarespace offers all these shortcuts to streamline the process.

I’ve got messy hair and a thirsty heart.

I overshare my life, and have an ultra-expressive personality.

Elphaba from Wicked is kind of my alter-ego as I am always trying to forge my own path and make a difference in the World, somehow, someway, while also constantly criticizing myself and trying to become the better version of me.

Quality conversations + coffee come easy to me.

I’ve never had an issue connecting naturally with others (probs because I can go on and on about my life story, not that it is interesting, I just process externally, anyone else?!)

I find so much joy in helping and serving others and I give myself fully to whatever it is that engages me, whether that is running a 50k or creating a website in a day.
