Let’s talk SEO (search engine optimization) on Squarespace! These are the photography SEO changes I would suggest you make today to your Squarespace website if you are trying to rank on Google.
Here’s a run-down on what I will go over in the video:
Write a keyword phrase people may use to search for your business and look at the volume (100+) and the SEO Difficulty (ideally 15-35). Then use that phrase on your photos and throughout your website.
If we haven’t met, hey I’m Bekah!
I started my creative business in 2018 and tried all the things (including logo design, photography, and social media management) until I landed on web design as being my go-to money maker.
I now work super part-time designing websites (in a day) and managing my students in my Squarespace DIY and Squarespace SEO courses while staying home with my 2 little kids.
This is the meta description/ alt text that screen readers use. You want to explain exactly what is going on in the image and if you can, add in the keywords you did for your keyword research. Just remember that it is for screen readers so you want to be clear about what is actually in the image.
Avoid keyword stuffing in one image. You don’t want to your alt tag to be “Philadelphia photographer photographing weddings”. Write how you talk.
Example: “Philadephia-wedding-photographer.jpg.” If the image is INCORRECT in Squarespace, you can either change the FILENAME in Squarespace, or you can download it to your computer, rename it, and re-upload it. Re-title the SEO Title if needed so it has keywords.
No one wants to wait 3 seconds for an image to load. Compress it using something like tinypng or tinyjpg to 1500px X 2500px and less than 1 MB.
Go to Pages -> Go to the page -> Click on Settings wheel -> Change SEO title.
In the same place, change the meta description. You want this to be very compelling. What are some ways you can pull in your ideal client? Maybe it is explaining what kind of photography you do. Maybe it is being funny. Just think of places to pull them in.
Scroll through your website and figure out where you could add in some of your keyword phrases (or variations of it) organically!
Blogging is not dead! It is an opportunity to easily add more pages to your website with keyword phrases. This tells Google you’re an expert in this field. Even if you can only do it once a month, that is 12 more pages added to your website!
