I have been asked a few times what computer I use to design websites. If you’re a new entrepreneur and not looking to drop a boat load of money, but want to enter the world of web design, this is my number one suggestion.
Now, you might be wondering, what makes this computer the obvious choice for website designers?
When it comes to website design, the Macbook Pro is the perfect choice and here’s why:
I worked on a 13″ for a while and whether you design on Squarespace or Showit it doesn’t optimize very well.
I also tried designing websites on a MacBook Air 2020 and it just didn’t have the UMPH (very techie answer, I know…) That being said, I bought a new MacBook Air 2024 (15″) and it has been amazing for designing on and is much cheaper.
I know $1,500-2,500 is a lot of money, but as someone who started this business so I would have the FREEDOM TO TRAVEL, having an option that is portable is super important to me.
I have found the MacBook Pro works best with the Adobe programs (or a new MacBook Air). My old Air sounded like it is going to blow up when trying to run beefy programs like Adobe InDesign.
Trust me, I was there, but splurging on a MacBook Pro is so worth it in the long-run. I got one that was a year old and it lasted me 5 years. With how much I am using it, I would say that is worth it.
Try checking out Costco and seeing if they have any or Black Friday usually has deals. In past years Apple would give you a $200 gift card which you could use towards a 3 year warranty.
Another great suggestion an Apple Geek Squad guy gave me was buying refurbished! You could get one that is a year old, refurbished and M1 (this processor is enough – there is M1, 2, and 3, but you probably won’t notice the difference) for $1,800-$2,000.
Check out the Apple store, Best Buy or B&H Photo for refurbished options.
*NOT AN AFFILIATE*
*BUT REALLY SHOULD BE*
In conclusion, when it comes to selecting the ideal computer for website design, the MacBook Pro 15″ (or more) stands out as the top recommendation for new entrepreneurs venturing into the field. If you’re looking to save some money, I would suggest the MacBook Air 8GB (15-inch, M3, 2024).
Its 15-inch display offers ample space for designing websites, ensuring optimal optimization regardless of the platform used. Beyond size, the MacBook Pro’s processing power is crucial for handling the demands of design projects, outperforming less robust options like the MacBook Air. Portability is also a key advantage, aligning with the entrepreneurial spirit and desire for flexibility. Moreover, its seamless compatibility with Adobe programs enhances workflow efficiency, a vital factor in the design process.
While the initial investment may seem daunting, the long-term benefits justify the cost, especially considering the MacBook Pro’s durability and performance over time. For those concerned about affordability, exploring refurbished options or taking advantage of seasonal deals can make this investment more accessible. Ultimately, investing in a MacBook Pro proves to be a wise choice for aspiring website designers, offering a reliable and versatile tool to support their creative endeavors and business aspirations.
Get the MacBook Pro 15″ (and no smaller). I have found it works best with the Adobe programs, has a fast processor (unless it is old), and you can get a good 5 years with it usually.

I’ve got messy hair and a thirsty heart.
I overshare my life, and have an ultra-expressive personality. Some words people use to describe me are: helpful, real, fun, creative, authentic, and kind.
Elphaba from Wicked is kind of my alter-ego as I am always trying to forge my own path and make a difference in the World, somehow, someway, while also constantly criticizing myself and trying to become the better version of me.
Quality conversations + coffee come easy to me.
I’ve never had an issue connecting naturally with others (probs because I can go on and on about my life story, not that it is interesting, I just process externally, anyone else?!)
