How to Quickly Improve Google Search Results

I am going to assume you have done the MAIN THING when it comes to optimizing your site for search engines which is keyword research and then optimizing your Title Tags & Meta Descriptions with those phrases. This is important because it will help Google understand the content of your page and encourage clicks from search results.

Top 6 Quick SEO Changes to make to get your Google ranking up

1. Add keywords to your footer đź‘Ł

Your footer is on every page of your website! Meaning you have a chance to add those ideal keyword phrases to 5+ places on your site. Add a description of who your business is as well as the location if it is location-dependent. Also add 1-2 internal links to key pages on your website. This will help users and search engines navigate your website as well.

Examples of the snippet you could add with keyword phrases:

  1. Looking for a wellness studio in Spokane to help relieve your anxiety and build better habits? Meet The Wellness Vault. Spokane’s boutique fitness studio & wellness collective with yoga, pilates, & barre classes.
  2. NAOMI is a nonprofit in Spokane providing support, direction and healing for women and children enduring trauma.

2. Keep titles under 60 characters ✍️

A quick SEO change you can implement today that will start boosting your rankings is going through your Title Tags (mentioned in the first paragraph) and make sure they are under 60 characters. This will insure it shows up completely in search results. While you’re at it, make sure the meta description is under 160 characters and summarizes the page well and has a clear CTA.

Example:
Title: Hire the Best Website in a Day Designer
Meta description: Get a semi- custom Squarespace or Showit website in just one day! Perfect for DIYers ready to ditch frustration and get expert help fast.

3. Improve Home Page Load Speed by Compressing Images⚡

WHY DOES THIS MATTER? Google prioritizes fast-loading websites because they provide a better user experience. A slow site can lead to higher bounce rates, which negatively affects your rankings.

So how do I make my landing page load faster? There are many things you can do, but since I am trying to keep this actionable in under 10 minutes, just compress images to reduce their file size. You can use a program likeTinyPNG.

Bonus tip: Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to test and improve your site’s load time.

4. Add Relevant Internal Links đź”—

Internal linking helps search engines understand the structure of your site and how pages are related. It also keeps visitors on your site longer.

  • How to improve:
    • Add 2–3 internal links to each page, pointing to relevant, high-quality content.
    • Use descriptive anchor text that includes keywords.

Example: If you write about marketing strategies, link to other related blog posts, like Instagram Stories Tips or How to Build an Instagram Marketing Business.

See an example of how I do it below:

5. Add Alt Text to Images 🖼️

Alt text helps search engines understand what your images are about, which can improve your chances of ranking in image search results and enhances accessibility.

  • How to improve:
    • Describe the image using relevant keywords.
    • Keep it brief, ideally under 125 characters.

Example: Instead of “image1.jpg”, use “nashville-wedding-photographer.jpg”.

See an example of how I do it below:

6. Update & Refresh Old Content 🔄

Google loves fresh, relevant content. Updating old posts can give them a second life and improve rankings.

  • How to improve:
    • Revisit old blog posts and refresh them with updated statistics, new tips, or current trends.
    • Update your keyword strategy based on recent changes in search behavior.

Bonus tip: Re-publish updated content to give it a boost in Google’s search results.

Why is this important? Honestly, this saved my 🍑 while I was on maternity leave…

Learning how to do SEO on my website low key changed my life. Especially when I was on maternity leave and wanted to still make some $$$ but didn’t have the capacity to be constantly marketing myself on Instagram.

I could give you the long backstory of how much Googling I did to try to figure out what is SEO, how do I do it, how often do I do it, etc. but let’s just agree to cut out all the fluff.

3 Ways SEO Is Making My Life Waaaay Easier:

  1. I get 80-90% of my website clients directly from them finding me on search engines
  2. People find my courses and services without me having to lift a finger (because they are on evergreen and ranking on page 1 – just search “squarespace seo course” or “website in a day”)
  3. I don’t feel pressure to show up on social media because I know I will have traffic organically

Ummm so yeah…I would say it’s pretty amazing and worth the initial set-up time.

Plus it’s totally free to do, unlike ads.

Conclusion đź’ˇ

Improving your Google rankings doesn’t have to be complicated! By making these quick SEO changes, you can see tangible improvements in your search engine performance. Focus on optimizing your content, speeding up your website, and enhancing the user experience — and you’ll be on your way to higher rankings in no time.

I’ve got messy hair and a thirsty heart.

I overshare my life, and have an ultra-expressive personality. Some words people use to describe me are: helpful, real, fun, creative, authentic, and kind.

Elphaba from Wicked is kind of my alter-ego as I am always trying to forge my own path and make a difference in the World, somehow, someway, while also constantly criticizing myself and trying to become the better version of me.

Quality conversations + coffee come easy to me.

I’ve never had an issue connecting naturally with others (probs because I can go on and on about my life story, not that it is interesting, I just process externally, anyone else?!)

I find so much joy in helping and serving others and I give myself fully to whatever it is that engages me, whether that is running a 50k or creating a website in a day.
