I can hardly believe it—our baby turned TWO.
And in true creative entrepreneur fashion, I couldn’t resist a themed celebration (complete with a touch of DIY and sensory play because, well… you know I can’t help myself).
We threw a farm-themed second birthday party, and it was a sweet, silly, sun-soaked afternoon full of toddler giggles, popcorn sheep, and moo-tastic games that even the grown-ups got into.
So if you’re planning a party for your little one—or just love peeking behind the scenes of real life over here—here’s a little recap of what we did, what worked, and a few easy ideas you can totally borrow (whether you’re a Pinterest mom… or not).
We kept it simple, active, and full of pretend play—and it worked like a charm.
🥚 Egg Gathering Game
A big pile of plastic eggs scattered across the yard and a few empty egg cartons = 9 minutes of toddler fun.
Their mission? Gather the eggs and fill their carton.
No rules, just movement and giggles.
Also, we had 2 real goats come to the party. Nothing like a petting zoo to bring the good times.
🌽 Farm Sensory Motor Play
Created by a brilliant OT friend, we had a doggy pool filled with corn, animals, and scoops.
The kids LOVED it—and I’m pretty sure the adults wanted a turn too.
It was one of those “this is fun AND good for development” kind of wins.
🐄 Moo Ring Toss
Honestly? It wasn’t used much, but it was cute.
🐎 Horse Obstacle Course
We set up a mini course with cones and logs to go over, and had the kids “ride” stick horses through it.
Spoiler: they were way more interested in sitting in the corn.
🦆 Pool Ducks
Classic, right?
Floating rubber ducks in a kiddie pool with little nets to scoop them out. Some kids played for 2 minutes. Some for 20. Bless the versatility of water play.
Can we all take a moment to admire the charcuterie board by my friend Julee? It was amazigng.
🐑 Popcorn Sheep
I filled clear plastic bags with popcorn and added little sheep faces to the front.
Easy? Yes.
Adorable? Also yes.
Highly snackable? You know it.
🐖 Veggie Tray Pigsty
This was my favorite. My friend arranged a veggie tray with a little piggie “in the sty” (aka dip) and a tractor, adorable strawberry truck, and more. You guys, my friends can’t do something just half way, and I adore them for it!
(And yes, the kids actually ate some veggies. Miracles happen.)
🐷 Pigs in the Mud Cups
Chocolate pudding + crushed Oreos + a marshmallow pig = the perfect mud cup made dairy free and all.
Was everything Pinterest-perfect?
Nope.
Did fewer people than I thought show up?
Yep.
Did we have some toddler meltdowns mid-party? Of course (he’s two).
But also?
There was joy.
There was laughter.
There were sticky hands, big smiles, and that moment at the big smile from the toddler.
And that’s what it’s all about.
Whether you’re planning a themed birthday, trying to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship, or simply showing up with some cut fruit and store-bought cupcakes—you’re doing great.
Here’s your permission slip to keep it simple, make it fun, and enjoy the sweet chaos that is raising little ones.
You’ve got this. 🐄🎈
I’ve got messy hair and a thirsty heart.
I overshare my life, and have an ultra-expressive personality. Some words people use to describe me are: helpful, real, fun, creative, authentic, and kind.
Elphaba from Wicked is kind of my alter-ego (I was a fan LONG before the movie-adaptation - anyone else?!). I am always trying to forge my own path and make a difference in the World, somehow, someway, while also constantly criticizing myself and trying to become the better version of me.
Quality conversations + coffee come easy to me.
I’ve never had an issue connecting naturally with others (probs because I can go on and on about my life story, not that it is interesting, I just process externally...)
